Mindfulness has been referred to as the heart of Buddhism. In this ancient practice, one quiets the mind and finds within a place of stillness. In this stillness peacefulness will emerge, perhaps only after a long struggle and staying with experience. Experience is a great teacher in that with each experience we survive, we learn more of our true nature- that of a peaceful warrior. A warrior because in the face of adversity, we must find ways to continue our life journey. The life journey is, in my view, one of healing and way of achieving more wholeness as a human being. Our journey is one of acceptance of the human condition, with the tantamount realization being that of our finite existence as human beings. It is the most profound truth and the most powerful teacher- death. Death begs us to fully become human and life fearlessly so that when we die we can say that we have truly lived. Sitting mindfulness provides us with the gift of being confronted with ourselves and our reality, and with this opportunity we can come to live truthfully and according to our nature- which is that we are all okay.
